Karen L. Carter, the assistant principal for academics at Holy Name High School in Parma Heights, Ohio has been elevated to the position of principal of the school, replacing Shelbrey L. Blanc, who was named school president last April. The promotion of Carter to principal was announced by Frank O’Linn, Ed.D., secretary for education and superintendent of schools for the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, which owns and operates Holy Name High School.

Carter has been employed at Holy Name for 28 years and has served in a variety of roles including social studies teacher, head volleyball coach, assistant athletic director, guidance counselor, associate director of admissions, advanced placement and College Credit Plus coordinator, and assistant principal of academics.

“Serving professionally in these numerous positions has provided me with the unique opportunity of interacting with students and their families as well as faculty and staff in so many different ways,” said Carter. “I am excited to have been selected as principal and to use my many years of education and administrative experience in this role, serving the needs of students, parents and the entire Holy Name High School community.”

“I am pleased that Mrs. Carter has been selected as our new principal and look forward to working with her in her new role,” said Blanc. “She brings a depth of experience to the position of principal which touches upon all aspects of academics including hiring of teachers, faculty evaluation, planning professional development, and improving curriculum. Mrs. Carter is passionate about secondary education and embraces the rich history and tradition of Holy Name High School.”

Carter is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. In 1989, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. In 1991, she received her Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education – Comprehensive Social Studies, with a minor in social work.

“Over the years, Mrs. Carter has proven herself to be an exceptional educator and steadfast leader who has engaged in a broad range of important roles helping students grow and prepare for their life’s journey,” said Dr. O’Linn. “I know Mrs. Carter will use her vast experience and exceptional skills to ensure the future growth and great success of Holy Name High School.”

Located in Parma Heights Ohio, Holy Name High School traces its roots to September 1914 when the school first opened its doors as a four-year secondary, co-educational, Catholic high school. The mission of Holy Name is simple and clear: To lead young adults to Christ by educating them in mind, body, and spirit.
