Featured: Construction Begins on New Multi-Purpose Turf Field
On Thursday, August 18, Holy Name High School held a groundbreaking ceremony to begin construction on the school’s new turf field project. Holy Name President Terry Kenneally ’67, Principal Shelbrey Blanc ’95, Athletic Director Jack Richardson ’79, Advisory Board Members Scott Opincar ’87 and Matt Gray ’86, and major donor Rich Cicerchi ’65 were the first to break ground on the field. Several other Holy Name alumni, supporters and students were also on-hand for this special event.
Construction on the field began on Monday, August 22. Since then, significant progress has been made on removing trees, as well as excavating and leveling the area where the grass practice field was previously located. Once this initial construction work is completed, FieldTurf will begin the installation of the synthetic, multi-purpose athletic turf field. It will be known as Cicerchi Field, thanks to the generous support of Rich Cicerchi ’65. Holy Name expects this phase to be completed by early November 2016.

Academics: Holy Name Welcomes 179 Students Into the Class of 2020
The Class of 2020 started classes on August 22, and began their journey as freshmen!
Here are some fun statistics about the Class of 2020:
There are 80 girls and 99 boys.
Thirty-Nine (39) members of the Class of 2020 had a mother and/or father graduate from Holy Name.
The Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of Cleveland that had the largest number of students come to Holy Name this year included Our Lady of Angels (West Park), Mary Queen of Peace (Old Brooklyn), Metro Catholic (Detroit Shoreway), St. Albert the Great (North Royalton), the Academy of St. Bartholomew (Middleburg Heights), St. Brendan (North Olmsted), St. Charles Borromeo (Parma), St. Columbkille (Parma), St. Michael (Independence), and Sts. Joseph & John (Strongsville).
Additionally, several students in the Class of 2020 come to us from the area’s public school systems, including the Avon Local School District, Avon Lake City School District, Berea City School District, Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Maple Heights City School District, North Olmsted City School District, North Royalton City School District, Olmsted Falls City School District, and Strongsville City School District. We also have students who have joined us from other non-public schools in Northeast Ohio.
Sixty-Eight (68) of our students live in the city of Cleveland.
Overall, Class of 2020 students live in 29 different communities, spanning five counties, including Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lorain, Medina and Summit. Besides Cleveland, many of our students live in Middleburg Heights, North Olmsted, North Royalton, Parma, Parma Heights, and Strongsville. We have students who come from as far west as Avon Lake, and as far east as Auburn Township.
We are excited to welcome in the Class of 2020, and look forward to what the next four years have in store for them at Holy Name!
Alumni: Six Inductees Set to Join Hall of Fame on September 25
The Holy Name Athletic Hall of Fame will induct six new members on Sunday, September 25.
Those being inducted include:
Ray Putka ’42 – Legacy Award (Football, Basketball, Hockey and Baseball)
Chris Broussard ’86 – Special Recognition Award (Career Achievement – ESPN Sportswriter)
Pete Pucher – Athletic Award (Head Football Coach, 1966-1970)
Duane Piscura ’67 – Athletic Award (Football and Baseball)
John Malone ’71 – Athletic Award (Football and Track)
Bill Zowie ’51 – Athletic Award (Football)
Sunday’s festivities begin at 3 p.m. in Holy Name High School’s Main Gymnasium. Tickets cost $50 per adult and $30 per child, and include a buffet dinner by Brennan’s Catering and beverages.

All alumni and friends are also invited to the Homecoming Cookout at North Royalton’s Serpentini Chevrolet Stadium on Friday, September 23 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The cookout, which is being catered by Augie’s Catering, is free to all Namers. Hamburgers, hot dogs and water will be provided, and will be available near the south gate of the stadium.
Cookout attendees are then invited to attend the Homecoming Game, being played against the Normandy Invaders. Gametime is 7 p.m.
Student Life: Homecoming Tickets and Court Nominations Now Available
Students interested in attending the Homecoming Dance – “A Night in Cleveland” on Saturday, September 24 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. can now purchase tickets during all lunch periods until Wednesday, September 14.

1 ticket w/t-shirt: $20.00

Dance permission forms must also be filled out.
