Coach of the Year - Hockey

Holy Name High School is proud to announce that Head Varsity Hockey Coach Tim Sullivan was named the 2015 Liberty Ford Men’s Coach of the Year! This recognition comes with $7,500 that will go to Holy Name, and a big screen TV for Coach Sullivan.

Coach Sullivan was initially nominated for the award in October 2015. He was selected in mid-October as one of three finalists in the Men’s Coach of the Year category. Coach Sullivan earned his spot in the final three after the sponsor chose him based on the following judging criteria: Coaching excellence, sportsmanship and integrity, and commitment to the community. Voting was then open to the public during part of October and throughout November.

The final decision was announced on Thursday, January 14, 2016 during a ceremony at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse. Coach Sullivan’s wife, Kelly, as well as Principal Shelbrey Blanc and Assistant Principal Karen Carter, were there to help him celebrate this wonderful award.

Coach Sullivan began the existing Holy Name hockey program during the 2003-2004 school year. Since then, he has built the team into one of the premier programs in Northeast Ohio. During the 2006-2007 season, the team won the prestigious Baron Cup III. They were the Division I Brooklyn District Runner-Up, as well as the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League (GCHSHL) Red Division Title winners, in 2013. Because of all his efforts, and his dedication to Holy Name, Coach Sullivan was inducted into the Holy Name Athletic Hall of Fame as a coach in 2011.

The hockey team is now a member of the tough Great Lakes Hockey League (GLHL), which was established at the start of the 2013-2014 season. Coach Sullivan was the inaugural GLHL Coach of the Year in 2014, and continues to be a great leader for a program that now features both varsity and JV teams. He makes sure his team remains involved in the community, as his players have worked with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, the American Red Cross, and local youth hockey programs. This year, the team hosted its annual Santa Skate at Parma’s Ries Rink, where members of the community could skate with Santa for free and could rent skates for $3. They also collected jars of peanut butter and donations for the Parma Peanut Butter Drive, which benefits the All Faiths Pantry.

Along with his coaching duties, Coach Sullivan is a history teacher at Holy Name.

We congratulate Coach Sullivan on his award, and thank him for all of his contributions to the Holy Name Community!
