FEATURED: Building Updates and Improvements

From beautiful new windows to a state-of-the-art, renovated Physics Lab, there are several improvements that have been, or are in the process of being made to the school building this fall!

Over the summer, new windows were installed on the back of the main school building. This completed the overall window project, made possible in large part due to the generous donations from Tony Ferrante ’49 and the Michael Talty and Helen Talty Charitable Trust. Additionally, the roof on the main school building and on several of the auxiliary buildings is being replaced, and should be finished before the winter season arrives.

The renovation of the Physics Lab on the school’s first floor is also well under way! In July, the room was completely gutted and everything from the floor to the chalkboards was removed. Since then, workers have put up new drywall, painted, moved the gas and water lines to the perimeter of the room, installed the cabinetry, and laid the groundwork to make the Physics Lab a functional space for learning and lab work. The lab, which will be named the Medical Mutual/James V. Patton ’47 Physics Lab, is expected to be fully functioning this month!

Additionally, Team Up for Turf, Holy Name’s initiative to build a $1.5 million multi-purpose field and track facility on-campus, continues to move forward. To date, nearly $630,000 has been pledged toward making this project a reality. Spotlight: Five HN Students on Attorney General’s Teen Ambassador Board

Holy Name is well-represented on the 2015-2016 Ohio Attorney General’s Teen Ambassador Board, with five junior and senior students chosen for this honor.

Seniors Andel Krakowiak, Morgan Pitman, and Jack Smith and juniors Anthony Mercuri and Ally Russ were among just 170 students selected state-wide for the Board, which collaborates to advise the Attorney General’s Office on issues related to teens.AG Teen Board 2

The students’ experience on the Teen Ambassador Board began when they went to Columbus in August and met with Attorney General Mike DeWine and his staff. While there, the students were assigned to small groups that address various issues, and focus on developing solutions to combat problems that Ohio teens face daily. Morgan, Jack, Anthony, and Ally are in the drugs and alcohol awareness groups, while Andel is a part of the distracted driving committee.

All of the students have monthly conference calls with their groups, where they discuss the research they have completed and brainstorm ideas on how to make teens more aware of the effects and consequences of underage drinking, drugs, and distracted driving. In March, the students will return to Columbus to present their final projects to senior attorney general’s office officials, with the goal being that these solutions will be implemented or included in a state-wide campaign.

Spiritual: Veterans Day Mass and Reception

Holy Name will commemorate Veterans Day with an All-School Mass on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.

The Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Ryan Mann, a parochial vicar at St. Charles Borromeo in Parma. All veterans, especially those who are alumni or supporters of Holy Name, are invited to attend the Mass and to be recognized for their service in the United States Armed Forces. After the Mass, a light reception will be held for all veterans in attendance.
