Holy Name is honored to announce that seniors Kate Reardon and Matthew Stracensky have both been named semifinalists in the 2020 National Merit® Scholarship Program!

Over 1.5 million juniors in 21,000 high schools entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program after taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) last October. Of those 1.5 million, only 16,000 are recognized as semifinalists, representing the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Kate attended St. Albert the Great School in North Royalton. She is currently ranked second academically in the class of 2020. Outside of the classroom, Kate participates in cross country and track; is a student government class officer and Eucharistic Minister; and is a member of Campus Ministry, Cenacle of Mary, and the Health and Medical Careers Club. She remains active at St. Albert the Great as an altar server and as a scorekeeper at CYO games, while also working at Mitchell’s Homemade Ice Cream. After Holy Name, Kate plans to study biomedical engineering at the University of Cincinnati, The Ohio State University or Purdue University.

Matthew attended St. Ambrose School in Brunswick. He is ranked first academically in the senior class. Matthew has performed in several Holy Name fall plays, spring musicals and one act performances. When he is not on the stage, Matthew is involved with STEAM Club; PenOhio; Drama Club; Campus Ministry; Music Ministry; and the Health and Medical Careers Club. Although he is a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Name, he is also an altar server and choir member at St. Ambrose. Additionally, Matthew is working toward earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Next fall, he plans to study aerospace engineering at Case Western Reserve University, The Ohio State University or Purdue University.

As semifinalists, Kate and Matthew have the opportunity to continue in the competition for nearly 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million.
